Scotty called me last night! It was so great to hear your voice Scott-boy! I miss ya man but I'm glad you're happy and having a good time in Korea! It's too bad your email account is hotmail and so small because I could send you magazine articles over the net so you could get your western magazine fix.
I'm contemplating getting a paid site to host my photos because the free ones just don't give you enough bandwidth or space to put up what I usually want to. It's just annoying for people trying to get there and the site has already exceeded it's bandwidth for the day and they can't view it till after midnight! I think I have a name picked out already I just need to save the money to pay for a domain. For the time being my recent pictures site is non-existant I took it down. My old pictures site is viewable at http://www.angelfire.com/me/lifesreflection
Scott made an interesting entry in his blog the other day about his choice to go to Korea. To check out his entry go to: http://s2hworldtour.blogspot.com
His entry got me thinking but there was nothing in it that I objected to. There was one thing that came to mind.
Last night my sister rented Mona Lisa Smile and I watched it for the second time. Now I did enjoy the movie the first time but I guess the message was kind of lost to me the first time. This time I saw more in it.
The message of the movie was that everyone can achieve what they want in life. Whatever it is they desire. In this movie many of the characters are educated but their goal in life isn't to have a career it's to have a husband and a family. They go to school because it is the 'thing' to do but the actual education has no purpose other than to define social standing.
Throughout the movie Kirsten Dunst's character Betty calls Julia Roberts character, Katherine subversive for being an unmarried woman by choice. It is Betty's belief that a woman's place is in the home caring for their families.
In the end she changes her mind about a woman's position in society and chooses to divorce her cheating husband while Julia Stiles character, Joan chooses marriage over a law career.
At the end one character suggests to Julia Roberts that Joan in fact let her down. It was because of Joan's choice that Katherine herself learns a valuable lesson. To respect the choices of others. You may not agree with what they choose for themselves. You might even see they have far more potential than they are living up to but you must respect their decision to choose their destiny.
This is something that has been an issue for me I must admit. I can see tremendous potential in my friends and many of them are not living up to it at all. Now many would say that I am also not living up to my potential but like I said that's our choices right.
While some people have a deep desire to travel the world I would rather have roots in a place where my life is surrounded with family and friends. I'm not a Nomad by any stretch of the imagination. To me it's not appealing. But that's me and I know I have many friends who wouldn't feel complete unless they could wander aimlessly.
In truth I don't really know what I want. I just have a small idea of what I don't want.
I'm sure there are many people frustrated by my choices as I can often be frustrated by the choices of others. The key really isn't to learn to understand them as much as it is tolerance of ideas that are not your own.
